The scene I mentioned happens somewhere in the middle and it's the kind of film where a scene like this doesn't even particularly stand out as being weirder than anything else that has happened up to that point.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-53350932271813715972013-01-29T21:04:23.739+00:002013-01-29T21:04:23.739+00:00Archangel spoiler! I'll stop now)

That's fair enough as to why you didn't like it, I've never been a fan of Blsde Runner, which seems to be a fairly unpopular standpoint.

And yeah, not sure why there was so much spamming! Normally blogger filters them out for me and deletes them before they appear on here.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-52631615443296413052013-01-29T06:50:14.799+00:002013-01-29T06:50:14.799+00:00"What do you have against it?"
The shor..."What do you have against it?"

The short answer, and I'm not being sarcastic or a troll, is "everything, except Aimee Mann's music". I had to force myself to finish it. I thoroughly disliked every character. The various storylines were of little interest to me. And the rain of frogs was just the director saying "I'm going to see what sh*t I can get away with and see if people will still think it's some kind of really deep metaphor they don't understand." Eight years before Magnolia Guy Maddin had used a rain of bunny rabbits to similar effect in his film Archangel (it's on the 1,001 Movies list).

I'm the opposite of you again in that for years I had never met anyone who even tolerated this movie, let alone liked it, let alone loved it, until I saw one or two bloggers mention it among their favorite films.

The important thing is not what I think of it, but that it gave you a love of films and that has brought you to so many other films that you have also found to be great.

And I'm sure you noticed, but you got seriously spammed on this post.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-87127262271565652452013-01-28T20:36:00.589+00:002013-01-28T20:36:00.589+00:00I've not seen Magnolia for a few years now, bu...I've not seen Magnolia for a few years now, but I can remember absolutely loving it, in fact it was one of the first films that I loved, and it helped start off my love of films. I didn't realise people could dislike it until I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, in which Kevin Smith wrote a rant against it and the people that like it (including hunting down a kid whose internet sudonym is MagnoliaFan), but he never really explained why he didn't like it. What do you have against it?

And Twister is indeed great fun.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-25402014427133897932013-01-28T18:10:46.538+00:002013-01-28T18:10:46.538+00:00I haven't seen some of the films in your top 1...I haven't seen some of the films in your top 10, and I seem to be the opposite on some that I have (i.e. hated Magnolia, loved The Ides of March.) Going on the premise that I should pick the films and not Hoffman's performance in them, Twister was a lot of fun, even though he only had a small part.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-17845791950708723852013-01-27T21:22:30.517+00:002013-01-27T21:22:30.517+00:00I thought the performances were amazing, especiall...I thought the performances were amazing, especially from Big Philly, but other than Capote's drive to write In Cold Blood there wasn't a tremendous amount going on for me plot-wise.
