I think only four actual named characters got sick - Paltrow, her son, Winslet and Jude Law's reporter friend. It didn't help that I knew going in that Platrow died very early on (its in the trailer), so maybe if I hadn't known that I'd have liked the film better.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-73929698376300734212013-01-13T10:10:33.176+00:002013-01-13T10:10:33.176+00:00I saw Contagion on television last night and check...I saw Contagion on television last night and checked up on your comments right at after the film. On almost every point I am with you expect one. I actually do think the director has no problem killing off the leads. I was so certain Gwyneth Paltrow was to be the lead of the movie and she dies after 3 minutes! Then They bring Kate Winslet in. She must be the great heroine then. But an hour later she is dead too! I was at this point just waiting for Jude Law to go down with a nasty fatal flu. Too bad that did not happen.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-9642159773029347912013-01-09T21:44:01.458+00:002013-01-09T21:44:01.458+00:00The realism was probably the best part for me, it ...The realism was probably the best part for me, it just wasn't as entertaining a watch as I was expecting. And I needed a few more set pieces.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-40829976599009348272013-01-09T14:01:33.062+00:002013-01-09T14:01:33.062+00:00I appreciated the realistic political/social eleme...I appreciated the realistic political/social elements of the film, and apart from the above mentioned science gripe it was much better than most of the competition. Overall I appreciated this film as it deals with a topic where a dose of realism is sorely needed as there is a frankly crazy level of conspiracy theorism (is that a word?) embedded in the general public's minds regarding the pharmacutical industry.pikeamusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-23826277804200205062013-01-08T08:20:12.475+00:002013-01-08T08:20:12.475+00:00I think I've just come to expect poor science ...I think I've just come to expect poor science when it comes to movies, but yes, that part was indeed laughable. I had an additional complaint, which is that it had really bad science in it (i.e. people kept apart to not pass on the disease, but then an immunized person is allowed contact with a non-immunized one? It was shown that this disease was passed via surface contact. Being immunized just means when you come in contact with it you won't come down with it; it doesn't mean you can't pass it on to others after coming in contact with it yourself.) That just made me laugh out loud when it happened in the movie, especially after the lengths Damon went to to keep them apart until then. That could have been an extra death for you - someone dying of stupidity.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
