I just checked out your list, some great picks there too, and most of the ones you used but I didn't will appaear on the future list of English-language remakes of non-English films. I can't help thinking what would happen if other notable directions remade some of their earlier, lesser works now or in their heyday. How amazing would Duel be if Spielberg made it in the mid-90s? Not that it isn't great already, of course.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-63374282518269093382013-03-29T20:35:56.148+00:002013-03-29T20:35:56.148+00:00Great picks here. I love that, after acquiring so many new skills, Mann just up and redid his own material. Heat was on last night, and I wound up watching the whole thing until 2 in the morning. Amazing film.Alex Withrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15887018476048271594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-77337410804593949172013-03-24T13:33:57.275+00:002013-03-24T13:33:57.275+00:00I knew of The Maltese Falcon being a remake, and I...I knew of The Maltese Falcon being a remake, and I've even seen it (the Bogey version), and I've since bought the DVD, but alas I cannot remember a single thing about it. It's one I'm looking forward to re-discovering, hopefully this time I'll absorb a bit more of it!

I'd heard that the 3:10 remake was much worse than the original (a film lecturer - not mine - told me that they'd replaced all the subtext with gunfire) but I enjoyed it.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-84165150389291023532013-03-24T13:30:26.333+00:002013-03-24T13:30:26.333+00:00That's very cynical of you to assume that anyo...That's very cynical of you to assume that anyone in Hollywood would make a film just for the millions of dollars it would bring it. I can't imagine living in a world like that.

I'm afraid I'm ashamed to admit I've never seen anything Jeeves or Wooster related, nor have I even seen much of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and considering I'm a big fan of both Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (I've got every season of House and Blackadder, and have at least seen Stuart Little) I can consider this a crime unto my own self. I shall add them both to the list of DVDs I intend to purchase upon the watching of all my other existing unwatched ones.JayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-57504916368482187052013-03-24T02:10:52.549+00:002013-03-24T02:10:52.549+00:00I'll just toss this out there because it's...I'll just toss this out there because it's one most people don't know: The Maltese Falcon with Bogart? Third version of that story, second one under that name.

The original 3:10 to Yuma is very different from the remake. I think I genuinely like the remake a bit more, if only because there's a lot more action in it. The end doesn't work as well in the remake, though.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072729371563273515.post-74070586479825320732013-03-24T00:40:41.291+00:002013-03-24T00:40:41.291+00:00I. Love. Ocean's 11. (the new one) So much. ...I. Love. Ocean's 11. (the new one) So much. It's so good. I love that you describe it as a "lightning strike," because that's precisely it. They got so lucky, why on earth would they gamble on trying to recapture that magic on inept sequels? (oh, right, money.) Also, The Thing (the one you mentioned) is, like, insane. Nice to see you include it here. I've seen a majority of these, but many of them I have not seen the original plus the remake, so I can't completely comment on them.

But Hugh Laurie in 101 Dalmatians before he became House was a delight to me. For me, Laurie is always and forever Bertie Wooster.

In general, I'm kinda fascinated with remakes, and specifically, with stories that are continually remade. So I approve of this post. I should do one too, huh.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
