So You Think You Can Review Tournament

As I'm sure most of you know, there's a wonderful website known as the LAMB (Large Assembly of Movie Blogs) over at www.largeassmovieblogs.com. I'm proud to be a member of this site (there's a link to it down on the right somewhere), and they recently hosted a tournament-style reviewing competition which I and 31 of my fellow bloggers took part in. The final results were announced yesterday and, after a rollercoaster of a journey, I cam second to the great Dan Heaton of Public Transportation Snob.

I have no qualms whatsoever about coming second, mainly because I never thought I'd make it through the second round (I was quite confident about my first round North By Northwest review), so the fact that I made it anywhere near the podium is, in my eyes, unbelievable, but here I am anyway. Over the course of my passage through the tournament, I was assigned three films from the List, so these reviews will be recycled on here in the near future, although seeing as one of them was a Hitchcock film (the aforementioned North By Northwest) I'll wait until I've got to that point in his career before posting that review, which will probably be next year at some point. Lucky me, I get to have that sat at the top of my Scheduled Posts section of Blogger for the foreseeable.

So, congratulations to Dan, a worthy winner, and I strongly recommend you check out his site here. Thanks also to Nick Jobe of Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob who ran the tournament, and to everyone who participated and voted, as long as you voted for me (under the alias Your Accomplice in the Wood Chipper, a reference to my favourite Coen brothers film).

Personally, I only think I made it so far because of the luck of the draw. Dan saw off some big name reviewers that would doubtlessly have finished me off, including Bubbawheat from Flights, Tights and Movie Nights, Steve Honeywell from 1001 Plus and Kai Parker of Man, I Love Films. I don't mean to downplay my own competitors, but I know for sure that had I been up against any of those reviewing behemoths I would never have made it past the first round.

  1. heh, it's funny to be listed as a "reviewing behemoth". Especially since I'm fairly new to the reviewing game, with just under a hundred reviews under my belt in less than a year. It was a fun tournament, and congrats on a well deserved second.

    1. Even so Bubba, I'd have put you down to get to at least the semis if I'd known the identities at the start.
